Middle Eastern Women & Society Organisation (MEWSo)
Defending and protecting vulnerable women from violence both at home and in the wider community, and helping them rebuild their lives through tailored advice, guidance and support.
Description
We are looking for a female volunteer interpreter who’s ready to provide on call support and fluent in Kurdish, aside from English
Our Advice department helps women who were victims or currently experiencing domestic violence or any form of gender-based abuse by providing emotional and practical support. As a volunteer interpreter, you will play a pivotal role in assisting our Advisors team. We are experiencing an increase in the number of referrals for women; many of them are native Kurdish speakers and don't speak English.
Duties
The volunteer will assist our Senior Welfare Advisor and Domestic Violence Advisor with their interactions with Kurdish-speaking clients by interpreting; we provide specialist guidance around different types of issues such as welfare, housing, benefits in addition to financial and legal advice. The volunteer doesn’t need any knowledge or experience in those areas.
Who will the volunteers be working with?
The role requires working closely with Kurdish-speaking women.
Training
They will receive ongoing support and supervision by MEWSo staff, besides different learning and development opportunities to enhance their skills and knowledge.
There’s no specific time commitment for this role. We’re looking for a female volunteer willing to provide on call support during weekdays and only perform tasks when needed, depending on whether the advisors have any sessions or assessments scheduled with the client. The advice session usually lasts between 1-2 hours. This role can be done remotely. We would like the volunteer to start as soon as possible.
