The Power Project
The Power Project facilitate trauma-informed self defence. They create spaces for people who live with the effects of violence to practise martial arts and support coaches.
Description

The Power Project is dedicated to facilitating trauma-informed self-defence and martial arts spaces. They are seeking volunteers for each the following roles: 

1. Fundraising and Grant Writing Volunteer: Brainstorm creative fundraising ideas, compile a list of potential funders, and assist in writing funding applications and grants. 

2. Marketing and Outreach Volunteer: Create posters and digital content to market The Power Project’s mission. Engage with relevant organizations and community events to connect with potential clients. 

3. Research and Evaluation Volunteer: Conduct research with potential clients, community centres, and organizations. Present evaluation results based on the research conducted. 

4. Partnerships and Analysis Volunteer: Help map the perspectives and experiences of potential clients and facilitators to better understand their needs and improve services. 

These opportunities offer a chance to contribute to meaningful community work while developing valuable skills in fundraising, marketing, research, and analysis. 

Duties

Fundraising and Grant Writing Volunteer: 

  • Conduct desk research to compile a list of potential funders and contact them.  

  • Research and brainstorm creative fundraising ideas. 

  • Assist in writing funding applications and grants to secure financial support.

Marketing and Outreach Volunteer: 

  • Research local community centres, charities, and organizations to establish connections and distribute posters and leaflets.  

  • Design and create posters and leaflets. 

  • Develop digital content, including infographics and videos, for social media platforms. 

Research and Evaluation Volunteer: 

  • Writing and conducting semi-structured interviews   

  • Conducting focus groups  

  • Experimenting with real-time data collection methods as such ambient measurement techniques and personal analytics.  

  • Presenting research findings in order to evaluate impact of Power Project 

Mapping and Analysis Volunteer: 

  • Conduct desk research to create a list of charities, community centres, and organizations. Map out their unique perspectives and the experiences of their clients and facilitators.  

  • Reach out to these groups to gauge their interest and understand how they interact with their clients.   

Who will the volunteers be working with?
The volunteers will initially be working with Maya D’Amour from the Power Project Team.
Training
Training is provided, as the Power Project aims for volunteers to feel rewarded and develop their skills. One-on-one meetings will be held to discuss goals and co-create a brief for each volunteer opportunity. Schedules and milestones will also be covered during these meetings. Additionally, volunteers will have access to a shared workspace, and travel costs will be covered.

Time commitment

Flexible and can be negotiated. Starting date ASAP. Outputs rolling and by September at the latest.
