Children of the Mekong
Children of the Mekong works with local communities to improve access and quality of education in Southeast Asia. Children of the Mekong supports children's education in 3 ways: i) With programmes allowing individual child sponsorship, ii) By running education centres and foster houses, iii) By implementing development programmes to improve the children's environment.
Description

Background:

Since 1958, Children of the Mekong has provided access to education to deprived children in six countries in Southeast Asia; Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, the Philippines & Thailand. We support and encourage the children to go as far as possible in their studies, until their professional integration. Today, we support more than 70,000 children, and 24,000 of them are sponsored individually. We carry out 190 development projects every year, and run 9 education centres to provide access to secondary school and university. Our operations are supported by 1,200 volunteers, as well as 60 overseas volunteers every year, and our charitable expenditure rate is 83.6%.

We have one permanent staff member in the UK,  Eugenie Munakarmi, COO, who is based in Hammersmith, London, and a team of volunteers.

For more information, please visit: http://www.childrenofthemekong.org/ or contact Eugenie Munakarmi at [email protected] if you have any questions.
