Friends of Moorfields
Friends of Moorfields is a registered charity that provides support to the patients and staff of Moorfields Eye Hospital. Among the main things we do is offering a diverse range of volunteer services to help patients navigate the hospital and support them on their patient journey.
Description

Friends of Moorfields is a registered charity that provides support to the patients and staff of Moorfields Eye Hospital.

Friends of Moorfields volunteers perform an extremely important job ensuring that all patients who come to Moorfields feel comfortable, reassured and receive the best possible treatment regardless of the outcome of their appointment.

Our volunteers are currently based at Moorfields Eye Hospital, City Road but we will be relocating to our new site based at St. Pancras Way, NW1 0PE in summer 2027. At this current moment in time we do have good coverage at City Road so may not be able to give you the hand-holding role if we have coverage on the day/s & times free. If you are happy to join in another role while a space become available/can wait until the opening of the new centre we should be able to give you a slot in this role.

We will be happy to support volunteers with references/UCAS statements, training opportunities and looking for careers.

Duties

As a volunteer hand-holder you will be responsible for keeping our patients calm and comfortable when having surgery. This can include chatting with patients prior to surgery, accompanying them during their procedure and being on hand to support them.

Training
All volunteers undergo some mandatory online training which includes 9 online modules. You will be trained in the role by shadowing a current volunteer already in the role to get experience on how to support our patients.

Time commitment

All volunteers must be willing to commit to a minimum of 4 hours per week (morning or afternoon session) for 6 months usually between Monday-Saturday anytime after 7am-5pm & occassionally later.
Application deadline

This organisation is one of our community partner organisations.

Like all volunteer recruiters we work with, they have signed up to our service standards, agreeing to abide by our policy on partnership working to keep you safe and supported whilst you volunteer.

You’ll never be out of pocket for volunteering through us – with in-London travel expenses to and from your volunteering guaranteed.

In addition, the team here at Students’ Union UCL Volunteering Service is here to support you throughout your volunteering journey – you can get in touch with us at any time.
