University is a big, exciting place. But life isn’t always easy. We’re here to give you support when you need us, care about the things you care about, and fight for you when need someone in your corner. Our job is to make sure you feel supported every day.
We live by four promises. Four reasons our cafes, bars, shops and gym feel different to those elsewhere: we put every penny of profit back into your community, we’re always better value than the high-street, we’re at the centre of your campus community, and we choose planet over profit.
Together, we can make the world around us better, on campus and beyond. UCL is yours, so shape it. We’re led by students and that means you’re in charge.
If you can imagine it, there’s probably a society for it. Wherever your curiosity takes you, whatever passion inspires you, you’ll find a home in our student-led groups.
We’ll keep you active in a way that works for you. Sport is for everyone, and we’ll help you find your level. From a casual class to captaining a competitive club, live an active lifestyle with us.
This is how you make a difference during your time here, and while you’re at it, add valuable stuff to your CV, give back to the communities you’re living in and discover London in a unique way.
Our events are designed to help you meet people, try new things and have fun. Events are for everyone, but we’ve highlighted ones that are family friendly or good for postgrads. Enjoy!

Oxford & District Mencap run exciting activity holidays for teenagers and adults with learning disability. We are looking for volunteer carers to come along on the holidays to support our guests. There are 5 holidays each year, four of which are located at Hill End Activity Centre in Oxfordshire, and one of which (for more able guests) is located at Macaroni Wood in Gloucestershire.
Volunteers can choose which holiday they'd like to attend. We expect volunteers to commit for the whole holiday, as well as attending a half-day zoom induction meeting in June (date TBC). We don't recommend doing 2 weeks in a row as they are very tiring. However, if someone wanted to do two or more weeks with breaks in between that can be a very rewarding experience. The holiday dates are:
Red week: 22-29 July 2023
Orange week (guests with higher needs): 22-29 July 2023
Yellow week: 29 July-5 August 2023
Green week: 5-12 August 2023
Purple Week (guests who are more independent): 11-17 September 2023
NB: Red, orange, yellow and green weeks are based at Hill End Activity Centre in Oxfordshire. Purple week is based at Macaroni Wood, Gloucestershire.

What measures have you put in place to ensure volunteers’ safety during COVID-19?
Over the last three years we have had very careful covid policies dependent on the current covid situation and guidance from the government and national mencap. We do ask that our volunteers are vaccinated, but understand that for personal or medical reasons this is not possible for everyone. We complete lateral flow tests before coming onto camp, and ask our guests to test before coming to camp also.
This organisation is one of our community partner organisations.
Like all volunteer recruiters we work with, they have signed up to our service standards, agreeing to abide by our policy on partnership working.
In addition, the team here at Students’ Union UCL Volunteering Service is here to support you throughout your volunteering journey – you can get in touch at any time with any questions, queries or problems you encounter.
