Description

We have a study support club for 12 - 21 year olds on Wednesdays 4 - 6pm, term time only, providing a quiet, supportive environment for young people to receive help with their studies. We are especially seeking volunteers who can assist with GCSE & A' Level Sciences (Chemistry and Physics) as well as Maths.

The young people are coming from either our on-site hostel, a youth club across the road or they are part of families we are already supporting.  We are looking for volunteers with ideally some teaching experience (paid, voluntary or in your personal life) and/or a subject specialism.

Who will I be helping?

The young people come from our on-site hostel, St Andrews Youth Club and older siblings of children who access our other services.

How does this role make a difference?

Homework Club is part of our delivery of family and young people support services, in order that low income and vulnerable families have improved access to services, employment opportunities and life chances.

What are we looking for?

  • Ideally you have some experience supporting others with their learning
  • You have a subject specialism that you can help with – please contact us to find out if your subject is needed.  This can change depending on who attends the club.
  • You are friendly, patient and build rapport easily with this age group.

How will you be supported?

  • You will be supported by the Family Services Manager and team. 
  • You will have access to wide range of e-learning topics. 
  • You will be reimbursed for travel expenses.
Duties

Volunteers come to our Family Services at the Centre in Pimlico and are matched with a young person who requires support.  Volunteers commit to one session a week for at least one academic term.

Family Services staff, other volunteers and our Volunteer Coordinator
Training
No formal training is needed. We have an e-learning platform with lots of topics good for future career and life!
Volunteers are supported by Family Services staff and other volunteers so lots of opportunities to learn.

Time commitment

We ask for one academic terms but ideally you will stay with us for two. We ask volunteers to come weekly as much as possible. It's good for the children and staff to know regular volunteers.
