Southwark Group of Tenants Organisations
SGTO is an independent voluntary organisation advocating for the rights of tenants and residents across the London Borough of Southwark. Since 1984, we have supported the operations of Tenants and Resident Associations (TRAs), advocated for council tenants and leaseholders on housing-related issues, as well as partnering with local organizations and community groups to improve living conditions…
Description

We are looking for volunteers to support our existing officers in supporting (TRAs)Tenants and Residents Associations in the London Borough of Southwark  to achieve their aims by providing practical resources and advice.  Assist tenants and residents in evaluating their own procedures and their own involvement.

Duties

What You'll Do:

The role would entail the following responsibilities:

  • Assist residents to increase the involvement of all their members through producing their own information, leaflets, and newsletters.
  • Ensure the residents are aware of information and resources available to them to achieve their aims.
  • Use innovative ways of working to provide support to “hard to reach” residents, such as youth, BAME, tenants with disabilities, residents in sheltered units, tenants living in street properties and leaseholders and encourage their full involvement in decision making.
  • Work with the voluntary, community and statutory sectors across the borough to deliver common strategies.
  • Link residents to appropriate training courses and activities both local and nationally in conjunction with the council.
Who will the volunteers be working with?
Each volunteer will be assigned a member of staff to support after the initial induction process.
