Description

The National Federation of Parks and Greenspaces (NFPGS) is the national voice supporting and advocating for Friends of Parks groups throughout the UK.

Friends' groups are volunteer organisations drawn from surrounding local communities and perform a range of different roles including protecting their local spaces  from inappropriate development, undertaking practical volunteering, improving sites through fundraising and implementing new facilities or offering activities and events , offering a route for local people to get together to discuss their local park and its role and providing a means for local communities to find out what is happening in their local park. There are over 7,000 autonomous and independent Friends groups in the Uk with an estimated 70,000 active members.

We are seeking research volunteers to design and analyse a survey to capture what our friends’ groups need to be more effective. This will enable us to better support our friends’ groups and improve their success in safeguarding vital green spaces.

Duties
  • Design a survey suitable for mass participation.
  • Prepare accompanying text to disseminate survey. (Survey will be disseminated by National Federation of Parks and Green Spaces).
  • Analyse survey data and provide a brief summary of results.
Who will the volunteers be working with?
With Paul Ely who is an NFPGS trustee and acts as the lead trustee for research activities. Paul has previously worked successfully with a number of master’s students undertaking their dissertations.

Time commitment

This opportunity would require occasional input between January to April 2025 for a total period of approximately 10 weeks from initially meeting with the NFPGS representative to signing off the survey results and report.

The scope and key milestones would be discussed and agreed and would include: initial briefing to agree methodology and approach, some further background research, production of draft survey, collation and reporting of draft results and production of final summary report.

It is possible that a follow up focus group might also be held.
