GoSafer.Online CIC
‘We are net gainers from the Valley and Big Tech. The problem is with the word “net.”’ — Scott Galloway, Professor of Marketing at NYU Stern School of Business
Description

GoSafer.Online's goal is to inform people about online risks, ranging from hacks and scams to grooming, radicalisation, and the psychological effects of AI chatbots. We are especially interested in vulnerable individuals, such as the young, the old, and those with limited English. We often reach them through intermediaries such as teachers, parents and carers, and voluntary groups. Our work is supported by a web site and we are planning a social media launch.

It's important to recognise that families can't "wait until the research is in" - they have to make decisions now, and they need information to help them. We want to avoid sensationalism though. We're not professionals and we stay well clear of clinical issues, but we want to align as closely as we can to professional thinking. Can you help us do that?

Duties

Your expertise will help us to ensure that the online safety information we provide is of the highest quality. You'll work with other members of our Expert Advisory Group to evaluate information before we publish it. You may also be able to identify the problems we need to talk about.

Training
We'll give you an induction session covering ideas, technology, politics, and law that determine how consumer technology and online risks evolve. Our site can provide you information about online safety. If there's something you'd like to know about which you can't find on the site, we'll research it and add that content.

Time commitment

The role is "as required" so the hours per week will vary. Quite likely it will be an hour or two on average. We'll discuss an average weekly commitment with you, along with any end date you may have in mind. This is not formal or binding, but will be useful to both of us for scoping the amount of work involved and the level of commitment you can make.

This organisation is one of our community partner organisations.

Like all volunteer recruiters we work with, they have signed up to our service standards, agreeing to abide by our policy on partnership working to keep you safe and supported whilst you volunteer.

You’ll never be out of pocket for volunteering through us – with in-London travel expenses to and from your volunteering guaranteed.

In addition, the team here at Students’ Union UCL Volunteering Service is here to support you throughout your volunteering journey – you can get in touch with us at any time.
