Description

Help us protect the future of London's adventure playgrounds!

We need volunteers like you to maintain and improve these vital play spaces for children and communities across London.

Help our team deliver corporate volunteer days focused on building, maintaining, and improving adventure playgrounds. You'll be essential in helping each day run smoothly by supporting project managers with logistics, practical tasks, and documenting the day by taking photos and videos. You'll also guide teams of corporate volunteers, ensuring tasks are completed safely and effectively.

This is an excellent opportunity for anyone seeking hands-on experience in site management, construction, community projects, or architecture. You'll gain valuable skills in teamwork and problem-solving, as well as an insight into community projects. You'll also become a DIY master!

For more information, please email [email protected] or visit our website at www.londonplaydesign.org.uk.

Duties

Your duties will vary based on your experience, interests, and ability to use power tools, but will include:

  • Supporting the team with logistics and project delivery, ensuring a safe working environment
  • Working alongside and guide corporate volunteers
  • Providing hands-on help with tasks such as fixing and building timber structures (think ramps, steps and frames), landscaping, solving small design issues, sorting materials, painting/decorating, replacing and maintaining play equipment, gardening, and clearing areas.
  • Taking photos and videos of the day, e.g. volunteers in action, before/after photos
  • Setting up and packing up at the end of the day
Training
We will assess your onsite experience during our first meeting, allowing us to tailor your training to your needs and interests. On your first corporate volunteer day, you'll receive training in using power tools and site health and safety from our project managers. We also run training days twice a year. A dedicated member of staff will be available for check-ins and ongoing support.

Time commitment

The position is fully flexible, we just ask that volunteers can commit to 3 days a month. After your initial meeting, you’ll be booked onto your first 3 days and will receive a monthly list of available projects and can select those that fit your schedule. Projects run across London from Monday to Friday, 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, with food/travel expenses up to £15 per day covered.

This organisation is one of our community partner organisations.

Like all volunteer recruiters we work with, they have signed up to our service standards, agreeing to abide by our policy on partnership working to keep you safe and supported whilst you volunteer.

You’ll never be out of pocket for volunteering through us – with in-London travel expenses to and from your volunteering guaranteed.

In addition, the team here at Students’ Union UCL Volunteering Service is here to support you throughout your volunteering journey – you can get in touch with us at any time.
