Camden Canals Narrowboat Association
Our aim is to offer disadvantaged community groups an experience of a canal trip on a traditional narrowboat. We run and maintain 'Tarporley' - a historic Northwich narrowboat, converted to carry 12 passengers. We mainly do day or evening trips but also longer ones as passengers & crew can sleep aboard. Volunteers help run the boat, crewing, supporting passengers, working locks, mooring,…
Description

Camden Canals and Narrowboat Association are looking to improve our working partnership with the local community in line with our charitable objectives. We need people who are keen to engage with other charities, community organisations, youth and schools to promote Camden Canals and Narrowboat Association.

Duties

Volunteers will need to have a good verbal command of the English language and not be shy when meeting people to discuss what we have to offer. We need people who are able to visit, phone or zoom organisations, to establish how we can help them and use Tarporley in the best possible way for the community.  It will be up to the volunteer to choose which organisations they wish to contact and follow through, ensuring they keep adequate documentation to ensure that there is no duplication.

Volunteers will need to be responsible for checking with the appropriate executive officer any requests received, where there is the slightest doubt that the request can be honoured

Members of this group will be expected to work closely with the trustees, the executive, the Web team and the historical team to ensure accurate information is passed to potential customers. Successful applicants will be invited to travel with us on the canal, develop taster trips for potential group leaders and will have a choice about helping with the boat and locks or just to travel and chat with the group leaders..

There is no fixed commitment in this role however we would ask that you complete at least four communications per month and commit to being with us for at least 1 academic year.

This organisation is one of our community partner organisations.

Like all volunteer recruiters we work with, they have signed up to our service standards, agreeing to abide by our policy on partnership working to keep you safe and supported whilst you volunteer.

You’ll never be out of pocket for volunteering through us – with in-London travel expenses to and from your volunteering guaranteed.

In addition, the team here at Students’ Union UCL Volunteering Service is here to support you throughout your volunteering journey – you can get in touch with us at any time.
