This project works in collaboration with Thames Reach hostels, which take care of residents who are homeless or vulnerable. Currently, Thames Reach hostels have 4 sites with poorly maintained outdoor spaces. These gardens have high potential to be redeveloped into cosy spaces for residents to walk around and enjoy their free time. We believe that creating a comfortable garden will enhance their quality of life and infuse the hostel with a more cheerful and energetic atmosphere.
Overview: As a leader of this project, you will be working with the partner organization Thames Reach directly to redevelop the backyard of their hostels into a garden. You will be responsible for recruiting volunteers, managing budgets, preparing reports, and organizing volunteering sessions. This short-term role will enable you to develop essential skills for any future employment. By taking full responsibility for this project, you will have a valuable opportunity to practice a variety of abilities that will benefit your career.
Objectives: Our goal is to clean up the weeds and turn the unused space into organized, comfortable, and possibly functional garden. We have a budget of up to £500 for tools and plants, so we look forward to hearing your creative ideas to utilize what we have and make positive changes!
Cost: All travel costs are covered by the SU's Volunteering team.
We are looking for leaders who can take over the project from September.
1. Prepare risk assessment, project plan, and monthly reports.
2. Keep in contact with Thames Reach regarding volunteering details.
3. Be up to date with the Student-Led Volunteering Project team's announcements and requests.
