The People’s Museum: A Space for Us is a space to preserve local voice and the area; to celebrate an incredible ‘radical, reformers and rebels‘ histories, to record the change now, as well as to campaign and preserve local working class heritage. This community museum has been set up by local residents with the aim of playing a part in…
Description

Meet new people, develop new skills and help engage a deprived community. Volunteer in our small community museum and help us to educate visitors and locals about the history of Somers Town.

Duties
  • Greet visitors and explain the museum's purpose and exhibits to them. Help connect visitors to events and projects they may be interested in and encourage them to join our mailing list.
  • Maintain the space and collection, keeping everything tidy and flagging potential issues to the staff.
  • You may be asked to help with some of the day-to-day tasks depending on your interests, including inventory, social media, research, curating our displays or a bit of DIY.
Who will the volunteers be working with?
Volunteers will work with one of our museum team, who each cover one or more day of the week, as well as other volunteers and members of the public.
Training
Volunteers will be trained on how to interact with the public and the basics of working in the museum, and given an overview of the museum's aims and Somers Town history. More specialised training will be possible depending on which tasks are undertaken and volunteers who are keen to develop in a certain area can be supported in external training.

Time commitment

The museum is open Wed-Sat 11:00-17:00
Volunteers have a choice of a morning (10:30-13:30), afternoon (14:00-17:30) or all-day (10:30-17:30) shift on one or more of these days per week, or per fortnight. More flexible volunteering is possible so if you'd like to help out but can't commit to a regular shift please do get in touch.
