Solidarity Sports
When Solidarity Sports was established in 2007, we aimed to engage children in sports--a fun, accessible way to bring kids together and promote good health and wellness. Solidarity Sports has harnessed the transformative power of play to nurture disadvantaged children recovering from complex trauma. We support children's healing through sports, healthy eating, arts, educational trips, mentorship…
Description

We are a charity that harnesses the transformative power of play and exercise to help vulnerable children recover from complex trauma. Our goal is to nurture the confidence of every child we work with and develop valuable life skills to help them reach their full potential. As a volunteer in our holiday projects you will build positive relationships and play with our children in a variety of fun activities. This can be anything from bowling, skating, rock-climbing, to a museum trip!

Our children have been through a lot in their short lives; it is vital we listen and give them a safe and fun space to express themselves.

You MUST have a passion for working with children. We want to create a happy, loving environment for our children.

Details of Easter holiday project:
29th May Tuesday - 31st May Friday (10am-4pm)

You can volunteer for one day, or more depending on your schedule.

Duties

Volunteers will support children at Solidarity Sports projects during school holidays. In practice this may be running through playgrounds with our children, supporting them as they try bouldering for the first time, ice-skating, and many more fun activities. Volunteers will build a positive, trusting relationship with our children, and make them feel special and valued at all times during our projects.

All volunteers will be DBS checked before volunteering.

Who will the volunteers be working with?
Vulnerable children in West London (aged 5-11) with a history of various difficulties, including mental health, special education needs, history of abuse, etc. More than 90% of our children are referred to by social services and live in very difficult environments. We need enthusiastic volunteers that are ready to dedicate your energy and affection!
Training
All training is provided by the Solidarity Sports team before the project, other training opportunities may also come up along the way to build CV and experience.

We have projects during term holidays (e.g. Christmas, half-term, Easter), if you continue volunteering with us you will have opportunities to undertake further training such as in child safeguarding.

Time commitment

We have projects every school holiday, in Christmas, Easter, Summer, and Half Terms, Monday to Friday, from approximately 10am-4pm.

In terms of volunteering and signing up, we are very flexible, so if you can join for just one day that is absolutely fine. We completely appreciate our volunteers have other commitments so aim to be flexible, however as we work with children it's super important volunteers are punctual and turn up to days they have signed up for.

Upcoming holiday projects:
27-31 May 2024
29 July - 30 August 2024

During the school term we also have after school clubs running every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday 3:30-5:30pm.
