We are on a mission to help children in London learn to read. On average, 8 children in a class leave primary school every year unable to read well, disproportionately effecting children growing up in poverty. By joining Bookmark, you can help a local child read better, feel more confident and start to love books! Develop your leadership skills this term, during flexible volunteering sessions…

As a Bookmark reading volunteer, you’ll help a 5–9-year-old learn to read, so that they can succeed in school and beyond. You will read together, play games, and see your reader progress, either on our secure online platform or in person at a local school.

Each reading programme involves 30-minute sessions with the same child, twice a week, for six weeks. You book your programme through the Bookmark app and select sessions at times that work with your schedule.

Time commitment

Sessions are available Monday - Friday either at 8.30am or between 12pm - 3pm.
On the app you pick 2 x 30-minute sessions per week that fit with your schedule.
You can start at any time throughout the term and commit to 6-weeks at a time.
What measures have you put in place to ensure volunteers’ safety during COVID-19?
This role is online-based.
