The Research Volunteering programme through the Community Research Initiative gives YOU the power to take your research and classroom skills out into the community to create a positive social impact. Through our bite size projects, you’ll work with a group of interdisciplinary peers and organisational allies to tackle a project that will draw on your research skills. These projects are flexible and designed with students in mind to give you amazing experience to fuel your CV, explore new skills, and meet other likeminded students. Ashok's Vision is a youth mental health charity supporting young people through community activities focused on nature, biodiversity, empowerment, skill-building, and wellbeing workshops.

A bit about the project

Are you a digital story tell? Do you enjoy turning impactful narratives into accessible case studies? Then this opportunity is for you! Ashok's Vision is hoping to create a series of visual case studies about the impact of our work to host on our website. We want these case studies not only to show the power of our workshops, but to be sensitive to the people we work with and echo the ethos of what we do!

What can I expect from this opportunity?
  • You’ll work with Ashok’s Vision to create powerful visual impact stories to be hosted on their website 
  • Speak to staff, service users, and use existing materials to create powerful digital stories for Ashok’s Vision’s website
  • Work with Ashok’s Vision staff to harness the right tone, content, and overall vision of a creative impact case studies that raise the profile of Ashok’s Vision
How will my work on this project impact the community?
  • By capturing images, stories, and general impact in a visual way, youll help Ashok’s Vision raise the profile of their work
  • By supporting Ashok’s Vision to streamline their impact story telling youll give the charity an arsenal of evidence that will build their capacity for reflection, improvement, and growth of their essential programmes for young people
Duties

What key tasks will the volunteer team be responsible for? 

  • Collect qualitative data from community members, programme participants and staff for case studies
  • Examining existing feedback, media, and case studies to collate all relevant impact information
  • Work with Ashok's Vision team to decide on a plan for how the case studies will be presented on the website, using visuals and animation
  • Work as a team to create digital visual case studies for the website

 

What skills will I practice and develop during this experience?

  • Flex your skills in qualitative research, oral histories, and ethnography by hearing and interpreting stories from a variety of sources
  • Practice synthesizing diverse case study information, turning complex stories into impactful and visual case studies
  • Get creative with digital storytelling by experimenting with different ways to turn plain case studies into visually appealing digital case studies
  • Practice working cross sector as you navigate working in partnership with the Ashok's Vision team to hone their vision for the project

Time commitment

- This opportunity can be mostly remote working and mainly virtual
- Minimum commitment: 2 hours/week, with 1 in-person meeting every 2 weeks
