Mind With Heart
Mind with Heart is an award-winning UK-based charity training teachers and students in sustainable wellbeing, emotional health and social connection.
Description

Help put AI to work for a more compassionate world

How can AI help a small charity make a bigger difference? Mind With Heart is looking for a curious, self-motivated UCL student to explore this question by developing an AI-powered fundraising system for our UK charity.

Our mission is to nurture sustainable wellbeing, emotional health and social connection in education. By helping us identify promising funding opportunities and prepare stronger funding applications, you will contribute directly to the resources that make this work possible.

This is an opportunity to experiment with cutting-edge AI tools, turn ideas into something practical, and see how your technical skills can serve a meaningful social purpose. We’re looking for someone excited by AI’s potential, eager to learn and motivated to make a tangible contribution.

Duties

What you’ll do

  • Build and experiment: Use AI coding agents such as Claude Code or OpenAI Codex, combining natural-language instructions with programming, to develop a practical fundraising tool.
  • Create an intelligent funding search: Design a system that discovers relevant grants and other funding opportunities, then ranks them by their alignment with Mind With Heart’s priorities and their potential suitability for the charity.
  • Develop AI-assisted bid writing: Enable the system to produce tailored first drafts of funding applications, drawing on our previous bids and existing materials to reflect the charity’s work, values and distinctive voice.
  • Explore and learn: Take ownership of your learning, exploring new approaches and resources such as Anthropic Academy as you develop your skills in AI-assisted development.
  • Share your discoveries: Document your approach, demonstrate what you have built, and share your learning with the Mind With Heart team so that we can maintain and develop the system beyond your placement.

You’ll have scope to shape the project, test ideas and make technical decisions as you discover what works best. The aim is to leave the charity with a useful, sustainable tool — and to give you practical experience of applying AI to a real challenge in the social-impact sector.

Training
• Self-directed learning shaped by your interests and project direction
• Access to online learning resources including Anthropic Academy
• Opportunity to explore AI agents and AI-assisted software development in a real-world setting

Time commitment

We anticipate a commitment of around 2–4 hours per week, with flexible working arrangements to fit around your studies.

A brief weekly check-in with a Mind With Heart trustee will provide an opportunity to share progress, exchange ideas and agree next steps. From December, you’ll also be welcome to work alongside the team at our office on Caledonian Road, N1.

We hope to work with you over a few months, allowing time to explore ideas, develop the system and share what you’ve learned. The start date and overall duration can be agreed together.
