What are the Student Choice Awards?

The Student Choice Awards are a way for students across UCL to thank amazing members of staff, and let them know that their hard work makes a difference. The feedback students submit about the kind of education that works for them also means that the Students' Union can work with UCL to share best-practice and examples of excellent teaching for others to follow.

How can students submit nominations?

Students can nominate staff members using the online forms on our website at www.studentsunionucl.org/sca.

When can students nominate?

Nominations are now open, and will close on Friday 26 March at midday.

What awards are up for grabs?

Students can submit nominations in 8 different categories:

  • Exceptional feedback
  • Amazing support staff
  • Outstanding research supervision
  • Diverse and inclusive curriculum
  • Excellent personal tutoring
  • Inspiring teaching delivery
  • Active student partnership
  • Brilliant research-based education

Can students only submit one nomination?

Students can submit more than one nomination in each category and nominate the same staff member across more than one category. However, the quality of their nominations matter as much as the quantity, so all nominations should try and set out in detail why that staff member should win, referencing the specific criteria for the award category the nomination is for. More advice about how to write a great nomination can be found here.

What can we do as staff to help?

The best way to lend a hand with the awards is to spread the word to students and encourage them to submit nominations. This is more tricky this year, as on-campus communication is usually a strong element of our promotional strategy for the awards, but any communications channels you can use for the awards would be much appreciated. There are loads of resources available on our Sharepoint site for the awards, from digital materials to email templates and animations for social media. All of these can be accessed below:

What happens after the nominations close?

Once the award nominations are closed, a group of student representatives including SU Sabbatical Officers and Faculty Reps will sort through the nominations and wittle them down to a shortlist of 3 finalists for each award, which will be announced at the UCL Education Conference on Wednesday 14 April. The winner for each award will be announced online between Wednesday 9 and Friday 18 June.
