Are you a developer looking to make your skills count for something bigger than just another app?
We’re looking for passionate student developers, coders, and tech enthusiasts to help build Side x Side (SxS) - a platform that turns student collaboration into real social impact.
Side x Side is a student-led social venture platform that transforms ideas into projects, matches collaborators, and rewards action - all guided by co-operative principles. Think of it as a social media platform with a purpose, where engagement leads to tangible outcomes rather than just likes or shares.
Why you should join us
- Impactful work: Your code will help students create real-world social ventures, not just “another app.”
- Real-time features: You’ll build notifications, collaborative project tools, and messaging systems — all at the cutting edge of lightweight, scalable web apps.
- Hands-on experience: Work alongside other students, social entrepreneurs, and the UCL Social Impact Team.
- Portfolio-worthy: See your code in action during live launch events and MVP cycles, with real users interacting with the system.
- Co-op culture: Be part of a democratic, purpose-driven project from day one.
What we’re looking for:
- Familiarity with real-time features (WebSockets, Pusher, Firebase, or similar)
- Experience with web development (front-end or back-end)
- Interest in social impact, co-operatives, or student entrepreneurship
- Reliability and willingness to collaborate in a fast-moving, experimental environment
Commitment: Flexible, project-based - we’ll coordinate around your schedule but expect involvement during the hackathons leading to a June trial and September MVP launch phases.
