Your Role
You will lead the new Research Students' Network and oversee the development of an engaging, dynamic and rewarding community of research students within the Union and represent the needs and interests of research students. Working with the Postgraduate Officer, represent these collective interests to UCL and beyond.
Issues You May Work On
As a Student Officer, you will work closely with students and Sabbatical Officers. Issues may vary depending on student concern. However, previous Officers have worked on issues such as:
- Working with the Postgraduate Officer to lobby UCL for better support available for PGTAs.
- Improving the student experience with increased access to facilities for research students.
- Playing a role in decision-making at UCL and Students’ Union UCL in relation to issues that affect research students.
Meetings You Will Attend
- Education Zone – Five meetings throughout the year.
- Research Degrees Committee- three meetings per year.
Your Eligibility
Any UCL Postgraduate Research student.
Time Required For Role
This is a part-time, unpaid position. You are expected to attend Education Zone and a range of additional events, approx. 15-20 hours per term. This role allows job shares.

The role is supported by a full programme of training, development and support to help build all of the skills and knowledge required and to support longer term personal development.
