Learn to... Golf

Where: Old Fold Manor Golf Club, Old Fold Lane, Hadley Green, Barnet, EN5 4QN, Hertfordshire

Please note: You will need to make your own way to and from the venue. Please factor in the time it will take to travel to and from the venue before you sign up.

When: Wednesday 24th January, Wednesday 31st January, Wednesday 7th February, Wednesday 21st February, Wednesday 28th February and Wednesday 6th March

Time: 13:00 - 14:30pm

Cost: £60 (this includes all 6 sessions)

What's included in the cost: 1.5 hours of coaching each week and equipment hire.

What to expect from the sessions: Over the 6 week programme, we will cover all aspects of the game of golf. This includes driving and hitting bombs like Rory McIlroy, iron shots to get onto the green as close to the flag as possible like Tiger, short game coaching to be become specialists around the greens and finally putting with a view to head out onto the golf course in the final session of the 6 weeks.

Please note: When you purchase the six week block of sessions, we have an expectation that you attend all six sessions. Please ensure you are able to commit to attending all six sessions before you sign up. Spaces will be allocated on a first come first serve basis.

What to bring: Please wear comfortable, warm clothing and bring a water bottle with you.

Learn to... Lift (Women Only)

Where: Bloomsbury Fitness, 3rd Floor, Bloomsbury Theatre Building, 15 Gordon Street, London WC1H 0AH

When: Wednesday 24th January, Wednesday 31st January, Wednesday 7th February, Wednesday 21st February, Wednesday 28th February and Wednesday 6th March

Instructor: Natalia Kika

Time: 08:30-09:30am (during the Women Only Hours in Bloomsbury Fitness)

Cost: £25 (this includes all 6 sessions)

What's included in the cost: 1 hour of coaching each week.

What to expect from the sessions: Over the 6-week programme, we will build a foundation for your strength training journey by covering all of the main free weight exercises, focussing on safe technique. Starting from warming up and setting up the rack for squats or the barbell for a hip thrust, we will continue to build onto your lifting skills with exercises such as deadlifts, Bulgarian split squats, bench press, and shoulder press to name a few, using both barbells and dumbbells. The goal is to support you in feeling strong and confident doing your own lifting sessions in the future, and maybe even taking up a strength sport like powerlifting! 

Please note: When you purchase the six week block of sessions, we have an expectation that you attend all six sessions. Please ensure you are able to commit to attending all six sessions before you sign up. Spaces will be allocated on a first come first serve basis.

What to bring: Please wear flat trainers if possible (for example Converse or Nike Air Forces) and bring a water bottle with you.

Learn to... Ski

Where: Gosling Ski and Snowboard Centre, Gosling Stadium, Stanborough Rd, Welwyn Garden City AL8 6XE

When: Thursday 25th January, Thursday 1st February, Thursday 8th February, Thursday 22nd February, Thursday 29th February & Thursday 7th March

Coach: Mike Loftus (a great beginner coach who will be with you the whole time and help you out at every step of the way)

Time: 18:30-20:30pm

Cost: £60 for the 6 week block (£10 per week for a 2 hour session). 

What's included in the cost: 2 hours of coaching per week, ski rentals (ski's, boots, helmets and poles) and transport via train to and from Gosling Ski and Snowboard Centre.

What to expect from the sessions: By the end of the 6 weeks you will have gone from a complete beginner to being able to make controlled snowplough turns and possibly starting to make parallel turns (everyone learns at different speeds). What does this mean? Well if you were to go on a ski holiday in the mountains you would be able to cover all the easy terrain of green and blue runs and by the end of the course you will have the correct foundation technique to build from in order to eventually conquer the whole mountain! 

What to bring: Old long sleeves tops and trousers that you don’t mind getting a bit dirty, jeans are not recommended. It’ll also be quite cold so layers are ideal. The lessons will run in all weathers so bring waterproof’s if necessary. Pack some gloves and long socks. Bring water and snacks with you as there isn't anywhere to get food at the slope.

Where to meet: The Snowsports Club will be meeting every Thursday outside Bloomsbury Theatre at 16:30 before walking over to Kings Cross to take the train the Gosling dry ski slope. They will be joining the ski racers on the night so it’s a great opportunity to meet others in the club too! You will return back on campus around 22:00-22:30pm.

Learn to... Self Defence (Women Only)

Where: Conference Room, 2nd Floor, Bloomsbury Theatre Building, 15 Gordon Street, WC1H 0AH

Time: 19:00-20:30pm

Cost: £25 (this includes all 6 sessions)

What's included in the cost: 1.5 hours of coaching and all equipment provided.

What to expect from the sessions: Krav Maga, meaning 'contact combat', is a self defence system that teaches practical, useful skills that can be used to protect yourself in real life situations straight away. It doesn't require extensive training or unusual physical skills - techniques are designed so that complete beginners can learn to use the situation and their bodies' natural abilities to keep themselves and others safe. This 6-week course will give you a sample of defences against hits, grabs and holds, attacks on the ground, and even against weapons.

Please note: When you purchase the six week block of sessions, we have an expectation that you attend all six sessions. Please ensure you are able to commit to attending all six sessions before you sign up. Spaces will be allocated on a first come first serve basis.
