About the job

Help us make Welcome 2025 amazing. We’re looking for students to help run events and activities all over campus during Welcome Week 2025. You’ll be helping make new students feel welcome, find friends, and join in with student life. You’ll be an ambassador for the students’ union and UCL, helping to create a friendly and welcoming environment. The role is flexible, and you’ll be able to choose the shifts you work.

Purpose of the job

We’re seeking students to help make Welcome 2025 our best yet. Working during the Welcome period is a fun and sociable experience, and we’re looking for responsible and self-motivated people to make sure the busy days and nights run smoothly. You will be crucial to the smooth operation of large-scale events as well as support the behind the scenes running of more than 160 different activities.

Job description

Depending on which shifts you choose, your duties will include:

  • Setting up spaces for events, including tables, chairs, branded material, decorations.
  • Delivering events and activities, for example facilitating the safe running of an event.
  • Chaperoning new students on trips and activities; this might include travelling to a venue, checking tickets etc.
  • Assisting with packing and distribution of goodie bags for Welcome Fair.
  • Checking tickets at events on and off campus.
  • Assisting with set up of the Welcome Fair – including laying out stalls, putting up small marquees, preparing performance areas.
  • Assist with moving and setting up equipment such as crowd barriers, performance mats, and other event equipment.
  • Stewarding and crowd control during large scale or busy events like Welcome Fair.
  • General support of the safe running of events including the Welcome Fair.
  • Assist with any other tasks as required.

You must be available to work at least 2-8 hours at events between the 15 September – 28 September, and 4 - 8 hours on September 25.X 
You must be available for training on 2nd or 3rd of September.X 
You must be a current UCL student as of September 2025X 
Hard-working with a willingness to undertake manual handling when requiredX 
Excellent interpersonal skills, ideally developed through previous experience of working in a customer service environmentX 
Ability to work to own initiative and as part of a team in a fast-paced environmentX 
Reliable and punctualX 
Fluent English SpeakerX 
Previous involvement with Students’ Union UCL through volunteering, employment, or s club/society X
