About the job

We are urgently seeking to appoint an Emergency Cover Bus Services Assistant (Chaperone) to provide cover for staff sickness or other short-notice absences on the École Jeannine Manuel bus routes in Central London.

The role involves supporting children aged 4–11 years old and ensuring their safety and wellbeing during transport to and from school.

This position would be particularly well suited to:

  • Students living or studying in West London
  • Semi-retired individuals with experience working with children and/or within the care industry

Applicants should ideally live in, or have easy access to, West London postcodes and be available to work term-time only.

Working Hours

  • Morning service: 7:15am – 8:30am
  • Afternoon service: 4:00pm – 5:45pm
  • Monday to Friday (AM and/or PM services)

Key Responsibilities

Morning Service

  • Meet the bus at the first stop at 7:15am
  • Safely supervise children throughout the journey
  • Escort children into school and hand them over to school staff
  • Record attendance using StudentSafe’s bespoke technology

Afternoon Service

  • Collect children from school at 4:00pm
  • Escort them safely to the bus
  • Ensure children board and alight safely at each stop
  • Record attendance using StudentSafe’s technology

 General Duties

  • Greet children and parents in a friendly and professional manner
  • Ensure children are seated, wearing seat belts, and behaving appropriately
  • Enforce a strict no eating or drinking policy due to allergies
  • Build a positive working relationship with the driver
  • Report any concerns or incidents promptly to the StudentSafe Operations Team

Safeguarding Requirement

Applicants must hold a valid Enhanced DBS Disclosure, including a children’s barred list check.
