UCL Surgical Society x Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) presents this surgical skills day to provide medical students with the opportunity to learn and practise essential surgical skills in a structured, hands-on environment.
Session Details:
Learn about the following:
- Principles of wound healing
- Different indications for suture & suture materials
- Setting up a sterile field & safe handling of surgical equipment
- Administration of local anaesthetic
Gain practical experience in the following techniques:
- Simple interrupted suturing (basic suturing)
- Simple continuous suturing
- Instrument tie & surgeon's knot
- Hand tying techniques
- Mattress suturing (horizontal and vertical)
- Subcuticular suturing
- Review of all techniques learnt
Each session is delivered by doctors, surgical trainees and offers:
- Hands-on practice in core surgical skills
- Guidance and immediate feedback from experts
- Progressive skill-building
- A certificate upon completion
Who can attend?
Open to all UCL medical students, no prior surgical experience required.
What to bring:
All equipment and materials will be provided. Please wear suitable clothing for a clinical skills setting.
