Great creative and make a fun enamel decoration for your uni room in this guided crafting workshop.

Audience: This event is for students and staff.

Overview: What happens when traditional cloisonné enamel art meets your creativity? In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn to create your own cloisonné enamel decoration from scratch.

Choose from designs such as the UCL logo, a cute bear, or a pattern of your own choice, and bring your idea to life by shaping and arranging metal wires to create the design before filling it with colourful enamel sand.No previous drawing or crafting experience is required.

You’ll be guided through each step, from outlining your design with metal wire to adding vibrant colours and creating the final piece.Whether you choose the iconic UCL logo, an adorable bear, or your own original design, this is your chance to slow down, get creative, and experience the beauty of traditional cloisonné enamel craft while making a unique piece that is truly your own.

Speaker bio: Mengqiu is a craft practitioner and PhD researcher at the University of Glasgow, with an MA in Education from UCL and nearly a decade of experience creating workshops, cultural events, and public art programmes.

Mengqiu's practice sits at the intersection of craft, cultural heritage, and storytelling, exploring making as a way to connect people, memories, and cultures. I have collaborated with international brands including Dior, Gucci, and TUDOR, and co-created heritage craft workshops at the West Bund Art Festival in Shanghai and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Mengqiu's current work explores migration, identity, and living heritage through material and making.
