The Big Hangout is a free event designed to bring UCL students together, whether you’re coming with a whole group, flying solo, or somewhere in between.

Across the Main Quad and Wilkins Building, you’ll find a series of relaxed, drop in hangout zones where you can bond over music, books, food, games, and activities. Think silent disco meets school disco vibes, cosy book nooks, free food, friendship bracelets, and Project Active challenges, with plenty of opportunities to join in without the pressure of having to be good at anything.

Q: Who is The Big Hangout for?

A: The event is open to all UCL students. Everyone is welcome, whether you're looking to make new friends, spend time with existing ones, or simply enjoy some free activities and food.

Q: Do I need to come with a group?

A: Not at all. The Big Hangout is designed for everyone, whether you're arriving with a big group, one friend, or on your own. The drop-in format makes it easy to join activities at your own pace.

Q: Is there a cost to attend?

A: No, The Big Hangout is completely free to attend.

Q: Where is the event taking place?

A: Activities will be spread across the Main Quad and the Wilkins Building, creating a range of different hangout spaces to explore.

Q: What kind of activities can I expect?

A: You can enjoy a variety of social and low-pressure activities, including a silent disco, school disco-inspired music, cosy book nooks, board games, friendship bracelet making, Project Active challenges, games, free food, and more. No experience is needed. The Big Hangout is all about having fun and getting involved, with activities designed for everyone regardless of experience or ability.

Q: Can I drop in and out throughout the event?

A: Yes. The event is designed as a series of relaxed drop-in spaces, so you can explore different activities and stay for as little or as long as you'd like.

Q: What if I'm nervous about meeting new people?

A: The Big Hangout is designed to make socialising feel easy and comfortable. Activities provide natural conversation starters, and there are plenty of opportunities to connect with others without any pressure.

Q: Is the Big Hangout accessible?

A: We want The Big Hangout to be as welcoming and accessible as possible for all UCL students. Activities are designed to be flexible and low-pressure, and attendees are encouraged to participate in whatever way feels comfortable for them. Alongside more lively activities, there will be calmer hangout zones where students can relax, chat, read, or take a break from busier areas.

Q: Why should I attend?

A: If you're looking for a fun, welcoming way to meet other UCL students, discover new interests, enjoy free food, and spend time in a relaxed social atmosphere, The Big Hangout is the perfect place to start. Stay for as long as you like!
