Age UK Islington is a charity which uses innovative techniques to provide support to Islington residents over the age of 16, enabling them to use self-help approaches to manage their own health and wellbeing. We focus on prevention: identifying those in need facilitating support before situations escalate. This, in turn, reduces over reliance on or inappropriate use of public funded services - GPs, A & E and Social Services. We aim to empower residents to develop their own support networks and their own capability and confidence to improve their situation. Volunteers make an invaluable contribution to the work of Age UK Islington, contributing their time, skills and enthusiasm and enhancing the support that we're able to deliver.

Victoria Ngai is a UCL Medical student and has been volunteering with Age UK Islington to raise awareness about end of life care. She tells us what it's like to take a candid approach to the difficult topic of death and how it's offered her a wider perspective regarding her future career as a medic.
