Description

Park Kitchen is a community research and documentary film project which is running once a month throughout 2026!

Each month we visit a different London borough, and find a bandstand, in a park. In this bandstand, we build a kitchen. This kitchen is designed by different artists each time, reflecting their vision of this domestic and private space.

We then invite local residents to cook, eat and chat together in this public/private space. All the while, we are filming the interactions that occur, for a documentary film project we will make in 2027, with all the footage collated.

The film will look at how Bandstands can be used as community spaces, and what kind of interactions happen in a purposefully curated 'private' space, within a public realm. We’re looking for creative volunteers to join our art direction and set dressing team.

Duties

We’re looking for creative volunteers to join our art direction and set dressing team as we transform bandstands into imaginative and welcoming kitchen spaces for filming and community gatherings. If you have an eye for design, enjoy making things by hand or simply love bringing creative ideas to life, we’d love for you to get involved.

This role could include helping to develop visual ideas, sourcing props and materials, decorating the space or supporting the practical side of building and dressing the set. We’re open to all kinds of creative input and would love to hear your ideas for what a kitchen could become in a public space.

So far, our designs have included everything from a 1970s Bajan kitchen to an art gallery-inspired kitchen complete with a plinth to display fruit. Each space is designed to feel unique, inviting and connected to the stories and communities involved in the project.

We’re looking for people who are imaginative, collaborative and excited by the idea of transforming everyday spaces into something unexpected. Whether you have experience in art direction, theatre design, interiors or DIY projects, or simply enjoy being creative and hands-on, this is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a fun and ambitious team.

Training
We will give you all the training you need for your role on the day. If you are interested in being a lead art director for one of our kitchens, contact us and we will book you in/ coordinate with you beforehand!
