Are you in London over the festive season?
Chrismas eve on the 24th of December is the biggest surplus food waste day of the year.
On this day we always need extra volunteers to help us collect and redistribute as much food as possible from roughly 12 local supermarkets to 13 local causes: hostels, after-school clubs and faith groups.
Come spend the day with us from 12pm/midday to roughly 8pm.
We have this 1 day a year where there is so much food going to waste and we have to quickly redistribute it to as many people as we can. We call it the 'Big Waste' and love taking the challenge on every year!
Why is there so much waste on this day: Because all supermarkets are closed on Christmas day and some even on the 26th of December so the food would go to waste on the evening of the 24th. Last year alone we stopped 30+ turkeys from going into the bin and instead going to those in need.
You'll be out on foot collecting surplus food local to our centre which is located NW1 1ES.
You'll also be inside our centre helping us to sort thru the food and helping with tidying up.
For those of you that are staying local you'd be helping to support the local community and bring a smile to many by providing them with still good to eat food that would have otherwise been waste.
Time commitment
You can come for the whole day - midday-8pm or you come for a minimum of 3-4hours, just let us know if you can do 12-4pm or 4pm-8pm
