The Royal Institution is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help us deliver interactive science events throughout the year. As a volunteer, your role would be to demonstrate experiments to young people and their families at our Family Fun Days. This could be anything from extracting DNA from strawberries to demonstrating hydrogen rockets to making balloon powered cars!
Family Fun Days are one day events running 10am - 4:30pm on Saturdays and no regular commitment is required. Volunteer for a brilliant opportunity get experience in science communication, presenting, explaining and demonstrating science in an informal educational setting!

You will be the activity lead on one of the many demonstrations and activities happening around the building. We ensure that everyone gets to cover more than one activity per Family Fun Day.
- Ri internal staff
- Notes and explanations of each of the demos and activities taking place.
- Safeguarding and health and safety briefing
- Safeguarding officer support if you need it.
Time commitment
The next Family Fun Day is on 31st May 2025.
We expect to do more Family Fun Days this academic year. Dates are TBC.
