What are your opening hours?
Our opening hours are Mon-Fri 07:00-22:30 (22:00 close during Summer), Sat & Sun 09:00-19:00 (17:00 close during Summer). We are open throughout the year (including the summer) and are subject to the operational times of UCL and as such close for about a week at Christmas, a week at Easter and Bank Holidays when the college closes. Our prices take in to consideration all closures. Our price list has the dates of all closures this academic year. Please take a look at this.
What are your quiet and busy times in the main cardio/weights area?
Our busy times are during the academic terms mainly. The main gym is generally busiest between 16:00 - 20:00 on weekdays. Our busiest days are Mon-Tues 16:00-20:00 (there may be other busy times too). Our quieter times are generally before 1pm and after 8.30pm during the week. For your own comfort please try to spread your use of the facilities throughout our opening times including the weekends to help disperse usage. We are open 7 days a week.
Outside of the academic terms, we are generally a lot quieter.
What membership options do you have?
We have a day membership (pay-as-you-go) and 1, 3, 6,12 month memberships. Longer membership offers better value. We have special offers at various times of the year. Please see our main webpage for any current offers.
Do you have to be a student at UCL to get the student prices?
No. All students, UCL or from other institutions can get the student rate as long as they bring a valid student ID as proof when you join. Non students just pay a different price which are still great value. Please download the price list from our main page for all membership options.
Can I book a squash court or class if I am not a member?
No you cannot. Please see our information on Squash/Pay as you go. You will need to join or register in person first as a day member for health and safety reasons before you can book a court or class. Just fill in the application form when you come in. Once you have done that we can book the activity for you or we can give you the log in details for our online booking system.
Do I need to book for fitness classes or squash?
Yes, sometimes the classes are fully booked. We need members to book one day in advance or on the day if there is availability. If you are not booked you may be turned away if the class is full. You can book online or in person.
Squash courts can be booked up to 7 days in advance. Please get your web log in ID and PIN from reception. Please be on time for the classes as you will not be allowed to take part after the class has started for health and safety reasons.
Do you have badminton / basketball courts etc?
Not at the Bloomsbury Fitness, however look at the details for Somerstown Sport Centre on the UCLU website. It is located near Euston station.
Do I have to do a gym induction and does it cost?
An induction is not compulsory. We recognise many people have used and been inducted in other gyms. We strongly recommend the free induction especially if you are a beginner or haven't used a gym in a while. If you are familiar with working out and you know what you are doing, you can start as soon as you join. There is an instructor on hand in the gym to answer any questions or help you if needed.
Can I try the facility before I join?
You can do a 'pay as you go' day fee to try the facility. If you decide to upgrade to a longer term membership immediately after your workout on the same day, then we will refund the appropriate day fee and take it off the selected longer term membership price. Occasionally we may run a promotion with a free trial offer, This will only apply during the promotion.
Can I get a refund or freeze/transfer my membership for a period of time that I am not around for?
Unfortunately we do not do refunds, freeze or transfer memberships except for medical reasons or if you leave your university (proof required). Our prices are very competitive, hence we do not offer freezing etc. Please refer to our terms and conditions for more information on refund calculation.
Do you have disabled friendly/accessible facilities?
We are I.F.I. accredited ( Inclusive Fitness Initiative). This means our facilities are available to all however we will need to assess things initially to decide on how best to provide our service and assistance if required. It would be good to talk to a member of staff and/or email us with any additional questions.
