I want to do something - but don't know where to start
This is so common! There's so much going on in the world, across different communities, in different regions. It can seem so overwhelming to think about making a difference. Where on earth could you, a singular student at UCL, even start, right?
It can turn into a kind of paralysis, not knowing where to start. So we can be reduced to reading and sharing things online to highlight a cause we feel strongly about without getting closer to the problem solving ourselves.
That's where Find Your Cause comes in!
What's on offer?
Brand new to 2026-27 will be a series of Find Your Cause events. These will be held in cool inspiring spaces in and around campus, bringing together students from all across the university who care passionately and want to do something that might actually make a difference.
Events will be 2-3 hours, including breaks and time and space to grow your network. They will be informal, facilitated events where you are in charge of what you contribute and what you get out!
You care about global warming? Trans issues? Homelessness? All such HUGE and complex topics. You will leave a Find Your Cause event with a better idea of how you might actually be able to take action and where at UCL you can get support to make your dreams of action into reality, when you're ready!
When?
Find Your Cause events will begin in Welcome Week and October. So make sure and plan for this.
Why should I do this?
- To make new friends and find your tribe or perhaps another tribe!
- To feel more in control, like you could actually do something
- To practice your reflection and communication skills
- Pot luck. You can't plan everything and you never know what might come out of this experience!
- Develop the right future skills for post-university, you'll stand out from the crowd with this
