This Spring there's a Saturday requirement to sort & shelve inbound inventory. The inbound stock (thousands of books arriving) needs sorting into alphabetical order and shelved, along with identifying any discrepancies. This is done in batches of around 200-400 units each. The workplace ambience is similar to that of a library. The storage warehouse was established in 2022 and the inventory profile is changing over time to academic books, but currently the majority remains trade books intended for general readership. The storage warehouse is mostly unheated, but as an active job that's never been particularly noticeable.
As the warehouse continues to scale up over time from 2022 to date, eventually this responsibility will be handed over to full-time staffing - however not quite at that point yet & experience has been it's completed efficiently on Saturdays without weekday distractions.
The business is an established internet retailer focused on books and entertainment products, dispatching tens of thousands of orders monthly, with a warehouse near Heathrow airport since 2011. Our office is a 15 minute walk from Hounslow West underground station. Small business working alongside the managing director. UCL Jobshop has been used at intervals over the last decade. Prior to applying - journey plan to Hounslow West underground, then add on 15 minutes walking time.
The job is paid hourly, Saturdays 9.30am - 5.30pm. Some prior staff members have also worked some extra days such as bank holiday weekends and after the end of academic year.
