the social events are what brings the experience of being in ucl taekwondo more worthwhile, as it gives us the opportunity to create bonds and lasting memories with each other. i believe i have what it takes and the passion to take on the role as events / social secretary as i understand the value social events creates for us in the club. i also have new ideas for social events such as introducing sports night into the club, which hopefully would turn out to be a great success and leave a lasting impression on the club for future years to follow!

Cyril Bryan Moya

Taekwondo club isn’t just about training; it’s also a place where people connect both inside and outside of sessions. Continuing well-organised socials would strengthen this culture, helping to build a stronger sense of community within the society.

I am comfortable initiating ideas and organising events with input from members, ensuring that the socials reflect what the club actually wants. As Events Secretary, I would aim to improve both the quality and variety of Taekwondo socials by organising fun events whilst seeking collaborations with other UCL and inter-uni societies in future events.

Some of my ideas for events include collaborative socials with other martial arts clubs, casual food meetups, or activity-based events (e.g. karting, ice skating, poker night) that encourage members to interact outside of regular training. I would also prioritise making events welcoming to newer members, as strong social cohesion is what keeps a society active and thriving.

Overall, I seek to make Taekwondo club a fun and engaging society to be a part of not just during training, but outside of it as well.

Firstly I would like to thank everyone in this lovely society. You are the reason I am applying for this role and why I am here to begin with.

My TKD journey started with a sparring session followed with a scrapbooking event organised by our pookie events secretary Shamaillah. Being a complete beginner at the time, I was super intimidaded by the idea of starting a new sport from ground up. But by seeing how sweet and supportive everyone was I plunged into the society and decorated every second of my first year by meeting some of the dearest friends I have.

My aim is to create a space where we can get closer as a team all while having the best time we can ever have, creating memories and sustaining this lovely milieu that hooked me to this sport.

Some of the things I had in mind for doing if I get elected:

Revival of UCLTKD Bdmntn (Why did this ever go out !?!) or Volleyball (depending on demand), picnic days to celebrate the once in a year appearance of this entity called the Sun, highly necessary wig-snatching sparring tournaments and more

I am an attentive and curious listener. So you can trust me on knowing what you would want as an event even before you realise that you want it as an event (If that makes sense).

I truly believe that next year will be a year where we cherish our community no matter who gets elected. Though I think I'd eat my role up just like that microwaveable rice I am devouring on my pfp (hence explains why I put that goofy pic on there in the first place)
