Sonia Teng

Hi everyone! I’m Sonia, a second year biomed student, and I’m excited to run for resident musical director! Music has been a core part of my life for as long as I can remember, and being part of MT soc this year has been incredibly rewarding! I’d love to give back by supporting MT Soc musically as Resident MD, as I especially enjoy bringing a show together musically, and this role closely aligns with my music training background.

My music / MD experience:

  • 10+ years of choir training, including performing in major concert and theatre venues
  • ABRSM Grade 8 Piano (Distinction) and Grade 6 Musical Theatre (Distinction); currently preparing for ARSM Piano and Grade 8 Musical Theatre
  • Play violin, guitar, and ukulele, and I also compose
  • MD for Annie in high school
  • AMD for The Last Five Years this year
  • Will be Musical Director for Nerdy Prudes Must Die in Term 3
  • Led choir in high school and also supported as a choir accompanist

What I’ll bring as Resident Musical Director:

  • From my choir training, I am confident in leading warm-ups, teaching parts/harmonies, and musical coaching
  • I’ll help mt choir prepare additional material for galas and other MT events, and creating solo opportunities for anyone interested
  • I’ll love to lead MD-focused workshops/Q&As so more members feel able to get involved with musical directing
  • Work closely with the committee to support Spotlight and other productions, and help look after music equipment where needed

I’d really appreciate your support — thank
