Hi everyone, I’m Nychole and I'm currently in my second year. After being this year’s Publicity Officer, I felt a strong sense of community in the Music Society that was welcoming and collaborative, always valuing the interests and time of its members. This has inspired me to run for Welfare and Community Officer for next year, hoping to empower the community even further by ensuring each member’s personal wellbeing in the society is prioritised on the same level as their musical interest.

My competence to fulfil the responsibilities of this role is supported by my previous experience in volunteering and representing people’s needs. Having done a range of documentary projects on social issues and interviewing people from different backgrounds on their struggles and experiences, I have acquired a strong understanding of the appropriate communication and compassionate listening that is needed for people to comfortably discuss personal or sensitive concerns. With that, I hope to bring a similar approach to this position and encourage more reliance on our welfare resources by:

  • Clearly establishing its purpose from the get go
  • Working closely with the committee to understand how well new members are able to adapt and feel comfortable in the society during rehearsals/events
  • Strong communication and active reaching out
  • Considering all sorts of welfare needs (not just music related)

Overall, I just want what is best for the Music Society because a great community means great music! :D
