Kayan Kotecha

Hi, I’m Kayan and I’d love to be your next Oncology Chair!

Over the past two years on committee, I’ve helped to grow our society, while deepening my passion for oncology. As Publicity Officer, I boosted social media engagement by 80%, attracting more students to events and raising awareness of different cancers. As Events Officer, I’ve led this year’s fundraising, raising nearly £300 so far for Maggie’s, while working closely with the subcommittee to support students passionate about oncology.

If elected, my aims are:

  • Growth and reach: Expand NUOC by welcoming more universities and sponsors to scale the conference for bigger impact, providing higher-quality workshops and broader insights into oncology. Relaunch ‘Cancer of the Month’, with guest speakers and coordinated social media content to improve engagement both online and in-person.
  • Academic support: Provide GDC tutorials and iBSc selection talks for second years. Expand the iBSc teaching series, with tutorials for each module, interactive workshops and specialist-led sessions.
  • Career and research opportunities: Strengthen mentorship by pairing students with oncologists for research, shadowing, and portfolios. Launch researcher-student networking mixers and collaborate with BONUS for greater reach.
  • Practical skills: Organise oncology-focused mOSCEs and ‘Cancer by Case’ discussions with clinicians.
  • Charity partnership: Grow our partnership with Maggie’s through expanding our events and support initiatives to amplify our impact.
