I would like to be the welfare officer because I want to make sure every member feels heard and supported.

My friends would describe me as kind and empathetic, and I’d like to think I’m pretty approachable too. I’m a huge advocate for student mental health, and I have previous experience supporting students as a transition mentor, where I helped first years adjust to university life. I’d love to bring that same energy here and make knitting society a cosy corner for students to decompress from the chaos that is university sometimes.

As a welfare officer, I will create a safe space by prioritising regular check-ins to see how everyone is doing and also set up an anonymous feedback form so members can have a say in the type of workshops we organise. I will also work closely with the events officer and charity officer to ensure our events are inclusive and meaningful towards causes we care about. Most importantly, I want to continue building on the warm and welcoming environment this society already has.

Beyond being someone members can freely approach and talk to confidentially, I’m familiar with UCL’s student wellbeing resources, so I can always signpost anyone if they need extra support.

Having experienced how welcoming this community is myself, I want every member, new or current, to feel that same sense of belonging.

If any of this resonates with you, I’d really appreciate your vote. Thank you :)
