Hello! I am Matthew, and I am running for welfare officer for next year's UCL Kendo Club. You will probably see me around in most training sessions, getting completely demolished by my mates and seniors, but striving to become better and better every time... Having done Kendo for six months now has really made me fall in love with the sport and the club, and now I would like to contribute and challenge myself by serving on the committee.

There are a few reasons why I think I will be a good fit for this role:

Firstly, I am a Psychology student, so my studies and interests naturally go well with the welfare theme, where I can both contribute and gain skills from this role.

Secondly, I have experience dealing with welfare matters in my previous job in a school, so I have a clear understadning on how welfare issues should be handled properly without causing any more damage.

Thirdly, I am already a committee member for another society at UCL this year, so I have gained a rough understanding of how things are operated within UCL societies, especially the SU. And most importantly, it shows that I have the related experience of helping in a society.

My main goal as a welfare officer will be to create an even more welcoming environment for the club, making sure anyone who joins in anytime gets the best experience of Kendo.

If you have any questions regarding anything that I said above, please feel free to have a chat with me during free time in practice or at the post-training pub social!
