Christina Liu

Hi, I’m Christina, a first-year Geography and Economics student at UCL, applying for Treasurer of the Go (Weiqi, Baduk) Society. I’m particularly drawn to Go as a game of long-term strategy, balance, and thoughtful decision-making — principles that also apply to managing a society’s finances responsibly.

In high school, I served as Treasurer of the Economics Society, the largest academic society in my school. I was responsible for budgeting, tracking income and expenses, managing reimbursements, and reporting financial updates to the committee. This experience strengthened my attention to detail and taught me how transparent and well-organised finances enable societies to run smoothly and sustainably.

I admire how the Go Society creates an inclusive space for both beginners and experienced players to learn, play, and connect. If selected, I would ensure accurate record-keeping, clear budgeting for equipment, events, and competitions, and timely financial reporting. I would also work closely with the committee to allocate resources efficiently so that sessions and activities remain accessible and well-supported.

My goal is to provide a stable financial foundation that allows the society to grow strategically and continue fostering a welcoming and intellectually engaging community.
