I’m standing for Treasurer of the Asiatic Affairs Journal Society because I strongly believe in its mission to broaden discussion of Asian politics and current affairs. Global conversations often remain dominated by Western perspectives and yet, in an increasingly interconnected world, the political, economic, and social developments across Asia are deeply significant. I believe societies like Asiatic Affairs play an important role in addressing this imbalance by creating spaces where students can engage with the region’s complexity through publications, podcasts, and events, as I have done this academic year!

As Treasurer, I would support the society’s work by helping ensure its resources are managed responsibly and transparently. I want to help sustain the publications, discussions, and events that allow the society to build a community of students engaged with Asiatic affairs and global perspectives.

I care deeply about ensuring that global issues, especially those concerning Asian politics, receive thoughtful attention and critical evaluation. My own interest in journalism and international affairs comes from my experience as Editor-in-Chief of my sixth form newspaper, The Kingfisher. Through this role, I developed a strong appreciation for the importance of responsible journalism, particularly in what is often described as a “post-truth” era where misinformation can easily spread and nuanced reporting is sometimes overlooked.
