Hey! I'm Carrie, a jazz singer and first year English student here at UCL!

Jazz was the first society I became involved in, and I can say with certainty that it will stay with me throughout the duration of my studies here and beyond that too. After having the pleasure of singing in this year's Bloomsbury show: 'Jazz Reimagined,' I was introduced to the many wonderful people (and songs!) that Jazz Society has to offer. The amazing thing about jazz is its sense of togetherness and the unspoken reliance on those around you. This is something I have so often seen in the Tuesday Jams, and I would love to take a part in continuing the opportunity for students to connect with others through performance, or merely the enjoyment of listening.

As a Jam manager, I would love to encourage collaborative Jazz from not only the regular jammers, but also those who have felt hesitance to get involved. This may include broadening song options to suit more requests, and having a range of instrumental and vocal jams to ensure everyone has the chance to get stuck in!

Being students in London, I am sure we are all in need of music to escape the hectic nature of day to day life. What better way to relax than to come along to the warm environment of a jazz jam with friends and fellow jazz lovers?

It has been so exciting to watch and perform in these continually growing jazz nights, and it would be even more exciting to take a leading role its growth.

Thank you!  :)

Ethan Choi

I have regularly played in the house bands in the Phineas and IOE jazz jams this past year. Interacting with and building on the musical ideas of my fellow bandmates has constituted a definitive aspect of my time at UCL. I would like to facilitate the joy of jamming and musical exchange in the jazz jams next year, contributing towards a fun and fruitful experience for all jazz singers and instrumentalists by being a Jam Manager.

I'm in a band and have had experience controlling the logistics of musical jams. In addition, I've also developed some recognition within the Jazz Society. I had the opportunity to produce UCL's Term 2 Jazz Show - Fiesta, incorporating many examples of engaging musical collaboration commonly seen in jazz jamming in a well thought-out, well-executed show. My past practical and leadership experience makes me an ideal applicant for this role.
