I’m standing for Treasurer because I truly love this society and have been an active member, attending many events. This has given me a good understanding of where expenses typically go, from cultural workshops to social gatherings. I want to contribute more by ensuring the society’s finances are managed well, so we can keep hosting amazing events that bring people together.
What I’ll Bring to the Role
I bring practical skills and personal qualities that make me a great fit. I’m good with numbers and have experience using Excel for budgets and balance sheets (learnt from IB Business Management). As an international student, I track my monthly expenses using spreadsheets, which keeps me organised and mindful of spending. I’m detail-oriented, ensuring everything adds up perfectly, and my strong time management helps me balance this role with studies. Plus, I’m a team player who loves collaborating to achieve common goals!
Why Vote for Me?
Students should vote for me because I’m reliable, organised, and genuinely passionate about making Japan Society the best it can be. As a BSc Management Science student, I’ve created event proposals in high school and managed budgets, so I’m confident in handling finances. I’ll ensure transparency, plan fun events, and make every penny count. If you want a Treasurer who’s detail-oriented, committed, and ready to make a positive impact, I’m your person!
Hi all! I’m Taka, a first year student from Tokyo!
The Japan society thrives on the large scale events like the boat party and spring ball. I love these events, and as treasurer, I will ensure they will continue to be held!
This year, working in the subcommittee, I saw first hand how much effort the committee put in to make these 600 ticket boat parties and 400 ticket spring balls a reality. I saw that managing funds for these events was especially important, as one mis-step could easily bankrupt the society, putting the rest of the year’s events at risk.
I am committed to taking on these responsibilities, so everyone in the Japan society can continue enjoying boat parties!
Specifically, I plan on…
→ Improving advertisements by sending them out earlier and working closely with the design team to give members a better picture of what the events will look like.
→ Tracking interests in events to better optimize event scale, reducing ticket costs and budget deficit risks.
Let’s keep the boat parties alive! よろしく!!
Being from a Japanese family and living my whole life in the UK, I naturally strive to connect with my roots and heritage. This involves me traveling back to Japan to see my extended family whenever I can, staying in touch with its modern culture, and taking part in cultural festivals back in Osaka where my father was raised. However, I also aim to use my experience of both British and Japanese culture to contribute to helping people get to know more about Japan.
Back at school, I was a member of the team running the Japan Society. Although it was much smaller than at UCL, we organised many events to help charities and donations to great causes in Japan, which was highly rewarding.
I am standing for Treasurer because I wish to help ensure the smooth running of the society’s events, providing members with the best possible experiences. Managing finances responsibly is crucial to keeping the society active and accessible, and I believe my organisational skills, attention to detail, and experience working in catering—handling transactions and budgeting—will allow me to manage funds effectively.
I ultimately hope to play a key role in keeping the society well-equipped to continue hosting fantastic events that celebrate Japanese culture. I would love the opportunity to support the Japan Society and help it grow.
Hi, everyone. I am Marcus, a second-year biomedical sciences student from Hong Kong.
I am running for Treasurer because of my passion for Japan. Japan has always felt like a second home to me, and hence, I hope to provide an outstanding experience to people interested in Japanese culture. My time in Japan Society has been amazing. I really enjoyed the variety of unique events and the opportunity to make friends with similar interests, regardless of their background. As a sub-committee member this year, it was an honour to help organise these events and witness the development of the society and committee. Through the experience I have gathered this year, I hope to further contribute to this society's success and growth by managing its funds next year as the treasurer of the society.
Confident in my abilities and eager to learn, I would love the opportunity to dedicate myself to this community to let many others experience the wonders of Japanese culture.
My targets:
- Organise more cultural and social events for students to experience Japanese culture and make connections
- Maintain if not increase the number of discounts
- Organise collaboration events with Japan Society of other London universities
- Transparency in fund usage to fellow members
My targets and plans are not limited to the ones above. I am open to any suggestions from members.
I believe I can have a positive impact on this society, and I promise to make your time as a member of Japan society memorable. Please vote for me!!
