I will formalize the Student Speech Contest into a more fledged out TEDx event, as well as stretch the time frame for both this event and the main speaker event. A bit more long-term, structured planning can go a long way to making a streamlined event that is both more comfortable for speakers and more transparent in its operation.

I've had experience doing precisely this when head organizing TEDxDeerfield, where I standardized a student TEDx event, created a nomination process for attracting speakers, and created a sponsorship structure to run that event.

If elected, I will structure next year's events by the end of this year's 3rd term. This means that all relevant dates and deadlines, themes, and event marketing materials will be decided and presented to the public well in advance of the actual events. This would give prospective student speakers AMPLE TIME to develop and refine their ideas, allow speakers in the main event to schedule around our events (instead of limiting our speaker choices to those whose schedules naturally match), and allows the committee to spend more time working with speakers and students closer to the event in a less chaotic and rushed environment.

Let's spread ideas more efficiently.
