The People's Classroom
We are on a mission to design an engaging and accessible learning environment where every student can reach their full academic potential.
Idea for research
Idea for research
As a new charity, we are currently developing a flagship programme and require research to support this process. This research will involve a literature review, with a summary of findings on existing interventions that focus on closing Maths GCSE attainment gaps and an overview of barriers faced by the following groups:

- BAME (ethnic minority groups)
- Low socioeconomic status
- Students with learning disabilities
- Neurodiverse students

There will also be an opportunity to conduct qualitative research through structured interviews and focus groups to explore students' experiences throughout the programme.
Impact of idea
The People's Classroom is a new charity that was initially established as a student-led outreach project in 2018. We support students from underrepresented backgrounds who are currently underperforming in their Maths GCSEs. We partner with local secondary schools to deliver targeted tuition sessions for Year 10 and 11 students. Our programme aims to improve academic and other outcomes for our participants by championing a collaborative approach that empowers marginalised students and tackles inequality within education.

A key element of our programme involves the co-production of learning resources, and the research will help to inform the effectiveness of this approach as well as provide recommendations on how to design engaging and accessible learning resources with students.
