YourStory Ltd
YourStory is a charitable organisation based in Lambeth North, south London. We specialise in mentoring young people who are disengaged from school, family and society. The mentoring takes place one to one but we also do group work with the young people. In addition, we provide support to their families as required. Most of the young people referred are from low income, BAME backgrounds.
Idea for research
Idea for research
Our charitable organization, specializing in mentoring disengaged young people, seeks to research the potential correlation between long-term health conditions and the likelihood of committing a crime. Our particular focus is on young individuals who grapple with challenges in connecting with school, family, and society. As this topic is novel for our organization, we encourage students to employ a diverse range of research methods to establish a baseline, with the ultimate goal of implementing a system to track this correlation over time while considering the impact of YourStory's mentoring service.

This research will specifically target individuals aged 10-24. We invite students to conduct a comprehensive literature review, leverage data from various sources such as police records, NHS data, Guy's and St Thomas' Trust, and Impact on Urban Health to conduct a robust statistical analysis. Additionally, we encourage the use of qualitative research methods, including interviews with individuals referred to YourStory, to delve into their experiences and perspectives.

The selection of an appropriate research method or a combination thereof will depend on the available resources, the desired depth of understanding, and the practicality of implementation.
Impact of idea
The aim of this research initiative is to yield insights that will significantly inform and improve our mentoring programs tailored for disengaged youth. Your contributions to the exploration of the relations between health conditions and criminal propensity will make a substantial contribution to the betterment of our community. These findings will not only serve as compelling evidence for securing funding but also hold the potential to enact meaningful change on this pressing issue, thereby fostering a positive impact within our community.
