From the Isle of Skye to Setenil de las Bodegas, you can discover both popular destinations and hidden gems, and have authentic and diverse travel experiences. Read on to discover my recommendations for weekend, short- and long-haul trips.
Weekend Trips
If you are a weekend trip lover or aim to discover one new place every month, there are a lot of amazing options which are only 1-2 hours away from London by train or coach. Taking a mini break or day trip will allow you to get away from the crowds, and recharge yourself.
Oxford
Home to one of the most ancient universities in the UK, you can discover history in every brick and mortar, and enjoy the young and diverse vibe at the same time. Tick off with the official university and city walking tour which takes you to the highlights of Oxford and some university colleges. Enjoy your time in the Bodleian Library, New College and Christ Church College if you are a big fan of Harry Potter, then go punting to spend a relaxing afternoon and feel the peace of this historic and lively town. Finish off in the covered market to shop for some local products.

Bristol
Make time to visit the Clifton Suspension Bridge, the icon of the city which was first opened in 1864, to feel how spectacular this masterpiece of work by Brunel is. If you love art and culture, don’t miss out the wonderful street art in the city, especially in Stokes Croft, Nelson Street, Easton and Bedminster. You can find a wide variety of graffiti from colourful murals on shop shutters to designs on windows. For foodies, Bristol is the right place for you as there are exceptionally great selections of food including cheesecakes and various British plates.
How to get there: 1.5 hours by train from London Paddington; 2.5 hours by coach.

Wales
If you are fond of hiking and natural scenery, Wales should definitely be in your pocket list. Plan your hiking trips to Mount Snowdon or Pen y Fan, the two most-liked mountains for the diverse landscapes, and refresh yourself with the stunning views. Take a steam train trip down the beautiful Dulas Valley on the Brecon Mountain Railway to capture the most picturesque countryside. With the most castles per capita in Europe, you won’t want to miss out the historic and charming built across the country, especially Caernarfon Castle and Conwy Castles.

Netherlands
Whether you like art and culture, or nature, the Netherlands will have everything for you. Head off to Amsterdam and rent a bike to cycle around the city - set off to south-west for the Van Gogh museum, and then cycle through Vondelpark and reach Amsterdamse Bos to explore the forest beauty. You can picnic next to the lake or cycle around it. If you decide to stay a few more days in the country, why not visit the iconic windmills turning against a blue sky? Check out the town of Kinderdijk near Rotterdam, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where you can see adorable windmills from 1850 along the river Noord.
