We're proud to launch Tastes Like Home, a cookbook created by students, for students, in celebration of the rich diversity of our student community. The cookbook is a collaborative effort, bringing together recipes from students and alumni representing 17 countries.
The illustrations have been carefully created by UCL alumni, Tyas Widayati, making this a truly student-led initiative. Each recipe tells a story, offering not just the steps to create a meal but also insights into the family traditions, memories, and cultural significance behind each dish.
Tastes Like Home is part of the legacy of Students' Union UCL's annual International Festival, where students are encouraged to explore different cultures, try new things, and come together in celebration. This initiative not only allows our wider community to gain insight into diverse cultures but also enhances their knowledge and awareness through a global culinary journey.
Dr Michael Spence, UCL President & Provost, said: "Tastes Like Home is more than just a collection of recipes; it’s a celebration of the commitment by Students' Union UCL to provide opportunities for rich, intercultural exchange and learning beyond the classroom. As students navigate their academic journeys and life in London, this cookbook will serve as a reminder of the home they carry with them, as well as the diverse UCL community that they are a part of."
The cookbook has been funded via a grant of £5,575 from UCL's Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Contribution and Engagement Fund. This funding is dedicated to advancing Equality, Diversity and Inclusion activities, reinforcing our commitment to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students.
100% of the proceeds from the sale of Tastes Like Home will go directly to the Students' Union UCL's Hardship Fund, which provides financial support to students in need.
