Sometimes life gets in the way of your deadlines and it’s important you’re supported to be autonomous learners and help balance the challenges of study, life and your wellbeing.
Sometimes you might just need a little more time to complete your assessments. This happens to all of us, and it’s not necessarily because you’re experiencing significant disruption beyond your control, and it’s not because you’re not working hard. Sometimes life gets in the way. Introducing the Delayed Assessment Scheme.
Use the Delayed Assessment Scheme for something that doesn’t normally qualify you for an Extenuating Circumstances claim, like a minor illness, or if you need extra time to complete an assessment due to other commitments. Student life can be difficult to manage, and sometimes you just need a little flexibility to manage your studies and your wellbeing.
The Delayed Assessment Scheme is different from Extenuating Circumstances, which are for emergencies. Submit an EC claim if you’ve experienced something significantly disruptive, sudden, unexpected and beyond your control. The scheme entitles all taught students to three Delayed Assessment Permits per Academic Year. The permits grant you pre-determined flexibility on eligible assessments. You’ll get an automatic extension without needing to wait for approval.
The scheme shows the power of working in partnership with UCL to make student life better. Education Officer, Shaban, has championed this policy all through his time in office. Shaban engaged students throughout the work to develop the policy, going faculty to faculty to make the case for change.
Shaban said: “Students should be able to make a judgement themselves on when they need a little extra time to complete assessments and this flexibility will help people make smart choices about their own learning”.
