You’ve got roughly ten weeks left — and if you’re anything like most SOM students, it’s already going faster than you expected. Here’s how to actually make them count.
The Canary Wharf campus is brilliant. Panoramic views, Bloomberg terminals, purpose-built collaborative spaces. But it can also become a loop. Same building, same cohort, same commute home.
Ten weeks sounds like plenty until it isn’t. The students who leave feeling like they made the most of it didn’t do everything, they just picked a few things and actually followed through. Here’s your prompt to do the same.
The 15-Day SOM Challenge
Pick 5 to 7 that feel genuinely useful or fun. You don’t need to do all of them; but doing a handful, with intention, will make the last stretch feel a lot more like something.
Social
- Attend one Students’ Union event that has nothing to do with SOM
- Organise a group plan: dinner, drinks, or a walk along the South Dock in Canary Wharf. You pick the date
- Reconnect with someone you liked but lost touch with mid-term
Career
- Do one coffee chat with someone in Canary Wharf whose job interests you
- Attend a networking event, speaker talk, or industry panel — check out Canary Wharf Group’s events for options right on your doorstep
- Reach out to one SOM alumnus or a contact you’ve been putting off messaging
- Book a 1:1 appointment with the SOM Careers team — they offer bespoke coaching, CV reviews, and access to exclusive employer events
Explore London
- Visit Bloomsbury campus properly: have lunch at the Print Room Café, sit on the Portico steps, explore the quad
- Try one new London thing through the SU’s Discover London programme — low-cost trips to markets, galleries, hidden gems and more
- Sign up for a session with Project Active — beginner-friendly, postgraduate-only classes from yoga to dance fit, from £3.50 a session
- Spend a full day in a London neighbourhood you’ve never properly explored
And finally…
- Use Canary Wharf beyond the lecture floors: grab lunch at West India Quay, walk the riverfront, explore the shopping centre
- Have a real conversation with someone outside your usual friend group
- Write down one thing you’re proud of from this year — and share it with someone
Pick your five. Start this week.
